How to install your 2022+ Wildtrak Roller Shutter on your Next-gen Ford Ranger or Raptor:
Installing a 2022+ Next-Gen Wildtrak roller shutter on your Next-Gen Ford Ranger or Raptor can enhance both the functionality and aesthetics of your vehicle.
We see so many posts about people asking how to install the roller shutters and have absolutely no idea or reference to guide them!
Hopefully these pictures & info will serve as a reference to help you get your roller shutter installed on your Next-Gen.
If you are installing the roller shutter by itself ( Without the sailplane ), you will have to cut the plastic tub covers where they come into contact with the brackets.
For Ranger Models Sport, XLT, XL, XLS, RAPTOR
STEP 1:
Wiring Details: If you have not done so yet you will need to order the KATIPŌ 4X4 wire harness kit which is a plug and play system that will allow you to open and close the lid on a wireless key-fob & Switch . This kit can be found here:
STEP 2: Remove the old tub-liner and plastic tub caps. For 100% Watertightness you will need to use the correct Wildtrak tub-liner that should come with your lid as this works in conjunction with the roller shutter for the drainage system. If you do not use the Wildtrak Tub-liner it will leak.
NOTE: If you do not have the correct tub-liner you can drill 3x holes each side into your existing tub-liner which will allow any water leaking into the tub to drain out under the liner. Its not perfect but will still help to keep your tub dry.

STEP 3: Follow the Instructions of the KATIPO Wire kit if you are using this system or follow the steps below:
STEP 3a: Use a small Multi Tool Blade to cut a rectangle into the plastic cover and then secure the switch into place with the self tapping screws.
NOTE: The two different switch locations depending on 12v or 240v Outlets.
STEP 3b: Lay under the left rear of the tub and locate the tow bar wire harness. Follow this harness away from the tow bar until you find the connection. Unplug the connection the then insert the power patch between the tow bar loom and the main loom. Please note if your Ranger does not have a tow bar fitted that it will have a cap on the end of the main body loom. Remove and keep this cap to reinstall onto the end of the patch. Once the patch has been installed make sure the red clip is locked in and then feed the power cable up and over the frame and up into the opening into the tub.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have the V6 Raptor it is important to ensure the power cable can not come in contact with the exhaust tail pipe. Please make sure to cable tie the power cable high away from the exhaust pipe and the heat. Not doing so may cause a fire or the wire to short.
STEP 3c: Feed the shutter cable up into the left hand side of the tub into one of the three holes but the one where I am pointing is easier to pull through in the next step.
STEP 3d: Next by using your left arm reach inside the opening to locate and pull the end of the shutter cable back towards you and pull it out of the opening.
STEP 3e: With all of the cables now pulled up and out of the opening connect the shutter to the shutter plug and then the power into the power plug. Lastly plug the tub switch cable into the back of the tub switch.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not mix up the shutter and the power cable plugs as this may cause damage to the internals of the unit. The power cable has a thick black plastic sleeve over the cable. The shutter cable does not.
STEP 3f: Slide the Controller box down onto the tub using the clips on the back of the unit ensuring it is pushed all the way down to lock it into place.
STEP 3g: Now pull up any slack in the shutter cable back out of the entrance hole back towards the cab and run it along the front of the tub over to the right hand side of the tub.
Your power box is now fully connected

STEP 4: Fit the two front tub-liner brackets ( LEFT & RIGHT ) into the lower two bolt holes using the T40 Bolts. Feed the shutter cable under or around the bracket so not to be damaged by the bolts or pinched by the bracket. Each bracket is stamped with a L or R .
NOTE: For a fitting kit without the Tow Bar patch this is where the power cable will enter the tub from under the body leading from the battery.
STEP 5: Place the Wildtrak tub-liner into into place and fit all the tie down points and fixings. Place the power outlet cover and the 2x side lights back into place.
STEP 6: Place the left and Right Rubber Tub seals into place. Feed the shutter cable past the right hand side seal where you will see the cable hole. use the 2x push screw pins to hold them into place. ( Do not fit the 2x T40 Bolts now )
NOTE: Feed the shutter cable under the right side tub bracket and in pass the seal to come out in front of the rubber seal.
STEP 7: Place the 4x Brackets along the top of the tub rails using 6x T40 bolts. Two brackets each side as seen in the photos. At this stage you may wish to run some sealant along the length of the tub for maximum waterproofing. Repeat for both left & Right Sides
STEP 7: Place the side rails on top of the tub and bolt down. 1x 13mm Bolt front ( Top ) & 2x 13mm nuts at the rear ( Under )
STEP 8: Place the sailplane on and bolt down with 4x 10mm Bolts 2x each side. Then place the steel bracket in place and tighten up 3x T40 Bolts each side.
STEP 9: Place the 2x trim covers on the inside of the sailplane making sure the clips are not bent backwards or are out of shape.
STEP 11: Fitting the inner Cargo Rails. Locate the 4x brackets as in the photo below. 2x left & 2x right . Locate the 2x Rails marked L & R. Make sure the end brackets are fitted as seen in the photo. The rails should come with 22x 7mm bolts as seen in the photo below.
NOTE: If you do not have them or do not wish to fit them please skip to the next step of fitting the roller shutter.
STEP 11a: Fit the 2x front brackets 1x left & 1x Right using 1x T40 and 3x 7mm bolts.
NOTE: Please note how the shutter cable is placed and insure it is not pinched by the bracket or the T40 bolt when the bracket is fitted.
STEP 11b: Place the middle brackets 1x left & 1x right with 4x 7mm bolts.
STEP 11c: Place the rails into place and hand screw in the rear T40 and the remaining 7mm bolts. Do not tighten until all the bolts are in their place. Once all in tighten the 1x T40 and then the rest of the 7mm bolts. Now place the plastic caps over the bolt holes.
STEP 12: You are now ready to fit the roller shutter. This is best done with two people so to reduce the risk of damage to the paint. Otherwise if you are working alone Lift the shutter into the back of the tub ready to lift it into place as seen int he photo. It is advised to lay a cloth, towel or carpet down so not to damage the tub liner sliding it onto the back.
NOTE: It is advised to use a strong stable step to step up and out of the back of the tub so not to hurt yourself.
STEP 14: Plug the shutter cable into the shutter plug and now test the key-fobs and the tub switch to ensure the lid opens and closes. Push and excuse cable back in behind the rubber seal.
STEP 15: Bolt down the shutter 2x T40 Front left & Right , 3x bolts each side left arm and right arm. 2x brackets rear of the tub. Place all bolts into place before your tighten. Start from the underside T25 bolts 3x each side while pushing the arms up hard against the Top Arms to ensure a good seal on the rubber. Check for any light coming past the rubber seal and adjust if needed. Next tighten up the rear T25 bolts on the end bracket into the tub liner. Lastly tighten the 2x front T40 bolts and place the 2x dust covers over the top. Now click the rubber seal from the tub liner into place and use the small black pin to secure it onto the roller shutter end.
NOTE: Do not over tighten as the T25 Bolts can easily snap and or strip.
STEP 16: You can now fit the two roller shutter covers. Push them into place until the clips lock them into place. Push any cable hanging down in behind the cover.
You are now done fitting the lid. The last part is to ensure the rubber seal is fitted on the back edges of the tub liner.
